Nationwide mortgage offer extension

Good morning members
I have a mortgage offer from Nationwide expiring on 13th March, 2017. Rental notice and other complications mean that I am unable to complete by that date. Does Nationwide only extend the offer by only 14 days only or is there any other way of extending it by 3-4 weeks on top of 14 days? I called them and they said 14 days is max and that too need to happen via solicitor.
Anyone has experience with this? If it is not a possibility can I make another mortgage application while the first offer is still valid and if I get that approved then ditch the first offer?
I want to avoid paying a rent and a mortgage repayment as it is a big waste of money.
