Nordic Walking!

Wow, I've just had my first experience of a beginners' group in Nordic Walking and I love it! Out in the open air, arms swinging from the shoulder, the freedom to just step out and the confidence that I have two poles to help my balance and at the same time work my upper body.
Up to about 20 years ago we would walk the Lakes and Dales, Mr 110rry and I, but as we got older things started hurting and over ten years ago Mr 110rry had his ankle replaced with the stern warning not to go yomping about because there was no revision of the operation. I moved on to cross-training for some years, but then my foot got worse and worse and eventually my balance went until I got the foot re-built. After that my toes were like bananas on the end of the foot with no "wigglability". I still walked (and walk) my dog but even she is getting older and now prefers a plod.
I saw a post about Nordic Walking on Streetview and decided to give it a go during my "lunch hour" today and I just love it. Oh my goodness, the freedom! And I do seem to have taken to the method like a duck to the proverbial, must be the years of cross training.
I brought some dog walking trousers and a pair of MBTs to work and changed into them in the ladies', stuck on my North Face jacket (MSE'd from ebay!) and I was away to join the group. There were seven of us, plus the instructor, so everyone got what they needed in the way of help.
Any other Nordic Walkers out there?

The only "annoying" thing about Nordic walking is that unlike just about any other sport/hobby etc you cannot spend a fortune on equipment etc.
Once you got your poles just about the only expense is new paws (feet for the poles) when they wear out.
Great sport and very MSE!0 -
Indeed, although I may have to replace the MBTs I walked in with walking shoes to see if I can get those toes moving at all. Otherwise, you are so right Quentin, a very MSE sport/exercise.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I have been a nordic walker for about 5 years now. I walk with a group every Monday morning for 55 minutes plus stretching/warmup/warmdown. We have an instructor. There are three levels. I started with the "easy" and moved up to the Middle group after about a year.
It really is fun and there is an insentive to go out on a bad weather day. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Absolutely! I can't wait until tomorrow when my instructor is going to lend me some poles until mine arrive. However, pole-less, I'm just off out for a walk!“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I would love to try this.
I love walking/hiking anyway.
