Money Moral Dilemma: Should I own up about my day off?
Comments
-
This is ofcourse all assuming the employer didn't decide to use holiday , which they are allowed to do0

Assuming that you have not had the day taken off of your leave entitlement, then this is not really a moral dilemma, but a matter of criminal law.
Suggest you refer to the Theft Act section 24 'Retaining a wrongful credit'.
It's a criminal offence to not tell your employer and for you to retain the money. If prosecuted and found guilty of this criminal offence it carries a sentence of up to 10 years!
Suggest you come clean with your employer asap.0 -
My wife is a temp and checks her payslips very scrupulously with her hours worked. Why do you want to be paid for time when you haven't worked?? Is this a "dilemma" or are you a crook?0

Almost the exact same thing happened to me before. I was paid for a day I didn't work but kept it to myself. Not long after I noticed a days' pay was missing from my payslip. I was furious and complained to my boss right away.
The cheeky sod asked me "Why didn't you complain when we overpaid you a few weeks back?" to which I replied "I'll overlook one mistake but not two!"0 -
I asked my wife about this because she's a temp. She said she would own up to this, firstly because she would be worried the boss would remember and secondly her honesty might pave the way to a permanent job - with paid holiday!0

Its obvious isn't it? Stealing is probably the wrong terminology but you took money that you didn't earn. If they find out, you could find yourself in trouble and lose out on future work. If on the other hand you are remembered for your honesty, that could work in your favour if a great role comes up in future.0
