Older ladies - make up for dark circles with crepey-ness??!

So I've got a double whammy - the under eye area is very crepey and dark. Not so much of a problem in my younger days (no so much crepey-ness!) but as I approach 50, I'm having a problem finding foundation/concealer which doesn't drop into the lines of the crepes, seemingly almost immediately! I've tried different methods of application - brushes, dotting with finger, different shapes of sponge/latex applicators etc. And I've tried loads of different foundations & concealers. So much in fact that I now have a cupboard full of barely used products - I dread to think how much they've cost
Oh and anything with even a hint of "shimmer" or highlighter just seems to highlight the problem (so the usual recommendation of Touche Eclat, in my case, was useless
)
I have melasma, so need some coverage. Most days I just use Nivea tinted moisturising day cream, but for nights out, I like to use a foundation.
Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions? (other than a large brown paper bag :rotfl:)

I was told its all about layering. So some sort of primer followed by a concealer and then a foundation on top.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks silvercar
Yep, I've bought primers too
And I've tried applying concealer both before & after foundation - it didn't seem to make any difference

Do you or have you used an eye cream? Tinted moisturiser won't give enough for round the eyes.
Moisture might help the crêpey, nothing will get rid unfortunately.0 -
Really need to change foundation first more suitable for the mature person, and less is more. Plus if using concealer just a dab under eye lightly tapping it with finger to blend. If you need to use a powder to 'fix' only use a very fine one as powder will sit and cling to any crevice or wrinkle making it more prominent.0

There is this stuff
Supposedly a concealer, smoother and wrinkle reducer.
I guess you put it on and it kind of sets and contracts

If you try it let me know if it works. Seems cheaper on ebay0 -
I would recommend using a good eye serum and eye cream 1st, ensure you use primer (you need one that will hydrate). Have you tried using a colour corrector under the eye as that should help cancel out the darkness, use before foundation.
I bought a family friend (who recently turned 70) an Urban Decay Make up lesson last year. She normally would use quite heavy foundation to cover everything, but tried their Naked skin foundation and concealer and loved it. Their foundation is very light but buildable so you can get quite a good finish without it setting in lines0 -

Oh and thanks Bogalot - I'll go have a look!0 -
I haven't tried any of their products but you may wish to check out Look Fabulous Forever.

I think it is for people older than you but they have various DVDs that show how to apply makeup etc to best effect.
I plan to order their eye primer, but I am still using an old one so not just yet.Grocery challenge 2017 January £158.74/£200

Thanks summerlady. I've had a look and whilst interesting, none of the videos appear to address my specific issues. And although tempted, I just can't afford to spend any more on make-up - age "appropriate" or not!! *Sigh*0
