Strange job interview

I work as a restaurant manager and got friendly with a guy that owns his own recruitment company. I asked him if he had any jobs going and I went in for my interview today.
The thing is I thought I was the only candidate. However, towards the end of the interview he told me that he had other interviews later that week and would let me know. Does this seem a bit strange to anyone? Does this mean after the interview hes not sure on my suitability?

What gave you the impression you were the only candidate? That's unusual.
If you were the only candidate and he decided he needed to see other people, then it's unlikely he was blown away, but seeing only one candidate isn't the norm0 -
Agencies, like all employers, would typically see at least three candidates.
Do you give a job to everybody that turns up to interview?0 -
I don't believe they were advertising and it was just that he liked me and wanted to get me in and see what i was made of. That's what worried me when he said we have other interviews lined up.0

Not sure what your problem is, you asked if anything was going and he interviewed you, im sure many other people asked if any jobs were going and they were interviewed too.0

Could be a lot of things, but my experience of agencies is that chances are he doesn't even have a job to offer you... lots of bait and switch0

The job is there. They were even discussing my potential role within the company in some length. I though it was strange how the job wasn't advertised but all of a sudden he has more interviews?0

I think it's just one of them lines or could have a memory like a sieve!. (Forgive the pun!) I also think some competition is meant to be healthy! You never know another candidate might even be responsible for putting the salary up! Perhaps in between considering yourself they realise they want to have the opportunity to advertise if they haven't already to see what it yields?. There was one time I had been told before 'other candidates to see' ! to get home later that very day to be offered a job. I remember wanting to say hey what about the candidates still due! Immediate start so they definitely couldn't have existed or I was last in!!! Yes it's frustrating but don't lose hope - nobody moans when an employer makes contact before said date with outcome I'm sure so there's still the option of a good turnaround.
A week to hear is the longest to wait to be successful in my opinion before best to move on, though, no news is good news until it's a confirmed no.
Was this in the recruitment agency or catering? Who knows they could even want to take up references or run it past someone else before offering or genuinely want to sleep on if it is a career change. Not much matters until the day a job is started whilst I wouldn't disagree neither that sometimes you can learn a lot in post interview conduct.0
