CSA to CMS: proof of income

I wonder if anyone can tell me what evidence of income the CMS will want to see from my children's father when our CSA comes to an end?
The situation is this:
We are on CSA2. There was a large arrears on the case, built up over many years of underpayment. This occurred because, although he knew what he needed to pay, he told me he earned less than he did. Luckily, the case happened to be under CSA so they were able to calculate the missing money. Once the calculation was finalised he refused to pay it and ended up on a Deduction of Earnings Order. The payment, including arrears, has been paid via DEO for several years.
In a few months the arrears will be paid off. That, and the fact that CSA are (obviously) closing leads me to think that our case will be closed at some point this year.
When the case is closed, I am 'happy' to pay my £20 to CMS to get them to calculate his new liability. I am interested to see if this has changed because the last time CSA looked at his earnings I think he was still in his probationary period at work, plus I have a feeling (although I don't know) that he gets some kind of commission. Given his history, though, I am concerned that he will lie about his income. Will CMS insist on seeing payslips? Or do they have a link with HMRC to look at his P60?
His maintenance payments have always been very small and I am not really expecting that to change but, on principle, I would like him to pay at least the minimum that the government says he probably should.
