Working in nurseries through an agency

Has anyone had any experience of working in nurseries through an agency? Just after some info and have some questions about how it all works. Thanks.

I did some work in nurseries as a teacher in supply, though occasionally I would be drafted in to be a TA or nursery assistant when a teacher wasn't needed.
  • Hi,

I am registered with tinies and find them ok but I don't get offered much work. Not sure if they are limited in my area (East London) but I notice on their website they constantly ask for more staff for this area so not sure where I am going wrong.

I am starting to look for a different agency - do you have any you recommend?

    Thanks :)

I haven't joined an agency yet as I don't qualify as a level 3 EYP until June. As a single mum, I qualify for WTC and don't need to work more than 16 hours a week atm. I know this will be complicated as I won't know exactly how many hours I will be working each week. I don't mind if I work in school nurseries or private nurseries. However, If I make myself available to work 9-3, would I only be asked to work in a school nursery? Even if I say 9-6, would I have the chance to work in a private nursery, or would I have to say 7-6 so they can ask me to work either all day, 7-1 or 12-6?
If I make myself available 7-6 for 3 days, would I have to work all those hours, which would equal 30 hours without lunch hours, even though I only really need to work 16 hours?
Could I ask them not to contact me on the 3rd day if I had worked 16 hours over the first 2 days?
Then there is the distance I'm willing to travel. Does 6 miles sound reasonable? Or would I have to travel further to have any chance of getting work?
    TIA

I haven't joined one yet, so don't have any recommendations, sorry!
What time do they usually ring you in a morning?
