No experation/sell by/useby date on the drinks I bought?

Hello all

I bought some Syrups online and noticed they didnt have an experation/sell by/useby date on them? I can see they were imported from the caribean orginally, maybe they dont have to have a date on them in their country. But thought they would have to have if they are imported into the UK?

Do food products have to have a experation/sell by/useby date on them if they are sold in the UK?

From my time in retail it was not a legal requirement for a Best Before End (BBE) date. A use buy date was.

BBE tends to apply to dry, ambient temp or tinned food. Use by applies to fresh food.

Syrup would have a BBE date therefore probably not a legal requirement. BBE is generally is a guide date to advise when the product is at it's best, after that it probably won't hurt you. It might not taste as good, or in syrups case, start to crystallise.
