Hi, according to the state pension website my wife has 41 years of full contribution but still requires 6 to achieve her full state pension
She does have a small works pension that is in the pension protection fund, but it really is nothing.
She has no idea if she was contracted out from any of her other jobs,
Is there a way of telling which years she was contracted out because it just says full years.
If I can find that info I could try to contact her previous employers pension scheme, as she really doesn't know if she had and pensions with any of them
She will be 57 in march and has worked since leaving school
Thanks for your help
M

Start here to check her past contributions - lots of advice linked from it too -
https://www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record
It will mention any contracted out periods if they exist.I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0 -

I do get a bit confused, because last time I looked for her it said a cope amount of £40 per week approx
Previously it said 20, now it's not showing any cope amiuntNo.79 save £12k in 2020. Total end May £11610

Where does it mention contracted out periods ? The only mention of CO is in the SP forecast where it simply states that you were contracted at some time and the COPE amount.
The Op said they didn't know if she was ever contracted out. So by seeing the COPE amount - that tells him she was right? It reveals there are in theory some other pensions out there with past employers?
Now step two which the OP has suggested is to make contact with prior employers to determine if she has any pension provision and get a statement.
I believe that they don't always reveal what the contracted out part is, but by adding the sum of all their pensions together - they get to know their situation.
Per the Gov.Uk advice
".. the pension you get from your workplace or personal pension scheme for the periods you were contracted out, should include an amount that, in most cases, will be the equivalent of the Additional State Pension you would have got if you had not been contracted out."
Molerat - if you know more - post that to help the OP....I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

The HMRC Contracted Out Helpline will be able to say which years were contracted out and which pension schemes received contracted out rebate money.
Then make a list of years worked from the NI records and employers and contact them and the schemes that the helpline mentions. If the NI records show any years paying NI for which you don't have info from the firm or the helpline, tell the Pension Tracing Service all the details you have gathered and which years you don't yet have information for and they will try to fill in the gaps and also get you any missing contact info.0 -

As per OPs posts, he has asked for help on the gov.uk site suggested and per James - it is clear they can also tell you which employer pensions were involved.I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

ThinkingOutLoud, you asserted that the NI record history you linked to will mention any contracted out periods that exist. That is the assertion that molerat was disagreeing with.
Mnd please use caution with anything that ThinkingOutLoud has sent you privately, that also may not be accurate.0 -

You're trying to be helpful but you don't yet know quite enough to be so you unintentionally misled instead.
Just start to grab what molerat and I suggest and you'll soon be helpful.0
