Renting a Room in Belfast

Hi All,

I've been looking around for a room to rent in Belfast, for at least 18 months and possibly longer. I've seen one of interest along the Castlereagh road that interests me (I've viewed a few overall). It's a nice little double room, with access to a laundry room, kitchen, living room and bathroom and a space at the front to park my car.

The price is £280 PCM and this includes the utilities (oil, electricity and broadband). Sharing with one other person (the owner) and this will not change as it's a two bedroom house.

I've obviously looked around and know the price ranges across Belfast, however I wanted to check if this is a reasonable overall price or is it too high compared to the market?

Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.

The price seems good, and having parking available is a perk. It's a good idea to check that you and the owner match in terms of heating preferences. My friend used to rent a similar, all bills included, type room. Turns out the owner was very rarely home and wouldn't allow the heat to be on when he wasn't there.

Discussed the oil preferences with the owner during the viewing, oil goes on for an hour in the morning in advance of us both going to work. After that I am allowed to put it on when needed but I'm sure that will be within reason.

Very cheap! You are basically helping him/her pay their mortgage and they are letting you have a good deal on those extras, I think that's pretty fair, and you will struggle to find better.

I think what is most important is how well you will get on with this person, do you have similar interests etc?

One thing to bear in mind is its their house, so they will be much more keener to keep it spotless compared to the usual rental lifestyle we all had as students etc.

Obviously you will both be doing your own thing, but you have to get on as you will soon dread coming back to the house if you don't.
