PPI - can't find the answer

Hi all, bit of a weird one this. I've searched and googled for a couple of days but can't really find an answer. Hopefully someone more savvy in this will be able to assist?
So a few months ago, a PPI company called me, I had previously ignored them all, but this time I thought why not. It was against two credit cards from my bank. I should add, I did actually phone my bank and ask about the PPI stuff, but it was a few months ago and I can't remember what was said.
I returned the PPI company's forms and heard nothing back till late December, when my bank sent me a letter about PPI, with an offer of settlement. Note, this came direct from my bank, to me. Not through the PPI company. So I signed the acceptance, and returned it to my bank. And got the money a little while late.
However, the PPI company sent me their own letter, with a copy of the banks offer, to me a few days after I actually received the money. I didn't sign this nor return it.
Now, the PPI company are sort of chasing me to settle with them. They want a rather large amount, obviously, because they're horrible people n all that. I think I worked it out that they effectively want about 45% of the amount, which in this case is about £2500...
So, my line of thought was thus- Yes, I originally asked this PPI company to do the footwork etc, but, I have not signed their acceptance letter. My bank sent me the letter directly.
What do I do?
Thanks in advance.

Pay the CMC.
You returned the company's forms and so engaged them as your representative in PPI complaints.0 -

Quite normal. However, the PPI company sent me their own letter, with a copy of the banks offer, to me a few days after I actually received the money. I didn't sign this nor return it.
Doesnt matter that you didnt return it. You entered into a contract with the CMC and they did their work for it (which is little more than an envelope with a stamp containing a template). Now, the PPI company are sort of chasing me to settle with them. You employed them. They did their job and they are entitled to be paid for that job.So, my line of thought was thus- Yes, I originally asked this PPI company to do the footwork etc, but, I have not signed their acceptance letter. My bank sent me the letter directly.
Your line of thought is totally wrong. What do I do?

Not the answer you probably want but they have earned that fee. It demonstrates why so many opt not to use CMCs, the reality of how much they take vs what they actually do doesn't hit home until you see it or in your case have to part with it.
