Chips without chip pan

Hi
Has anyone got a good method for chips without a chip pan?
I stopped buying oven chips a long time ago as I begrudge paying for someone to have chopped potatoes for me!!! :eek:
I do potato wedges which are nice, but they always turn out like a cross between chips and roast potatoes.
Any ideas??

I do some of the slimming world 'sin free' ones (the only thing I lost on the slimming world diet was the weekly fee! However, the chips recipe has stayed with me) :-D
These might be a bit similar to the way you make your wedges though...
Take potatoes and chop up into chips
Par boil for a couple of mins, drain and return to pan
Add a tablespoon (or so, depending on amount of chips) of olive oil, put a lid on the pan and shake hard - this roughs up the edges and helps them to get crispy and coats them all in the oil.
Pour out onto a baking sheet and cook until golden and crispy.
I love them and they are so much healthier.

i just cut into chips, par boil and then put in a baking try with a bit of oil and bung in the oven till they're done.0

Off topic, but why is it that Sainsbury & Tesco can sell potato wedges for 70p a kg (and very nice they are too), while the same weight of chips is never less than £1?

1.5kg value oven chips is 42p
Anyway, I also make my own (keep frozen ones in for if I get caught short of spuds) spray with oil & bung in oven, yummy! If I make thicker chips I par boil them.One day I might be more organised...........

I read on here that Asda smartprice ones are very good. Sadly my nearest Asda is miles away. I too do the slimming world ones, but they do taste more like roast potatoes which is what they are really. Nice though.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Sorry - just spotted your message!
I usually put them on at about 240 C and for roughly about 20 - 25 mins. You know when they are ready as they are lovely and golden coloured.
One thing I forgot though - I usually give he tray a shake half way through to turn them.

I tried the 'eat your self thin' ones last week, they advise you to use an egg white and shake your chips in it before you put them onto a baking tray. It tests your nerve a bit as they cook, what with an egg white forming into a bit a of a glob, however, keep the faith they advise, I did (I had little choice really). They were very very tasty and lovely and crisp.
B/F loved them too.

I'd definitely go for Slimming World chips - much better for you than chip pan chips and you can season them if you fancy for variety.£4000 challenge
