Financial Advisor Services and Charges

Hi
I am self employed professional working thru Limited Company.I feel my accountants to be bit distant and uninterested in guiding me with finding best possible means of reducing my corporation and personal taxes by guiding me with pensions and/or insurances/investments.
I too am not too very knowledgeable on this front.The accountant advised me to get help of IFA but the chap recommended by them sounded more like a pushy sales man and I was not comfortable with him.
Before I contact any further IFAs,I would appreciate if somebody explain how exactly IFA can be of any help in these ciircumstances and how would be their service and charges?I just need an approximate idea.
