Your mortgage will of course be a credit record for you when you come to remortgage.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Keep one credit card and use it as intended

    - Your bank has issues, use the credit card (hopefully with a different company)
    - You put fuel in your car and card gets declined, use the credit card
    - Larger purchase spread over a few months
    - Car has something big go wrong on it , more than in savings , and you don't have quite enough, use the credit card.
    - Get a reward credit card and get the benefits by using it for all your normal purchase like food shop.

If you really feel you cannot control yourself well money wise get the limit reduced to something you could clear with 1 or 2 months disposable income. If still you really don't want to keep a credit card, then at least open a current account with another non linked bank and save a bit away it in so if like what has happened before where over the last few years RBS, Natwest or HSBC have had issues causing people not to be able to get money or pay for things you have a backup payment method.
