Oh Wokkies you've had me on a mission with this question, I'm not even a member of shop and scan.:rolleyes:
I had an idea it wasn't the pound because I remember the pound coin coming in and it was later than 1970, in fact the pound note as we know it hadn't even come in then (decimilisation in 1971).
So anyway, I had to go and google and found this...The ten pence and five pence coins (equivalent to the two shilling and one shilling pieces) were phased in from 1968 and the new fifty pence piece was first issued in October 1969 to replace the ten shilling note which ceased to be legal tender on 22 November 1970
