Will they let you take some music in to listen to while it's going on? I've always been able to and it really helps (though the machine's still very loud).

I had to have an MRI a few years ago, the actual scan was fine - the worrying bit was going to the 'Nuclear Medicine Department' - not a very reassuring address!

Just be glad your trip to the nuclear medicine department didn't involve swallowing such large quantities of radiation you had to be confined to a lead lined room for 3 days afterwards!
