And just to be clear, where everyone misunderstands where I'm coming from, is that I don't dislike any particular type of professional.

What I dislike is their absolute sheer arrogance on how they cannot possibly be wrong, never admit any mistakes, and if possible go and blame someone or something else.

I got banned for a while for mentioning an event last year that seemed to polarise people points of view so I won't even mention how wrong one side was.

Other than that all advisors are just lovely people and deserve a lot more credit.

    Cheers fj

Ego demands attention - don't give it.
We all know he's not going to go away of his own accord, no matter how hard we wish it.

So failing that, human decency says you should play with him for a bit and make him feel loved, even if you can't fundamentally improve his position in life or solve his deep mental anguish.

You know, same thing as you might do with some poor wounded animal you come across in the woods, or some idiot lost child getting upset in a shopping mall. Emotionally satisfying to have helped him out for a while, even if it wasn't very intellectually stimulating and took up some of your precious time.

Obviously as with the woods or shopping mall situation - if the critter's parent doesn't turn up sooner or later to take over the babysitting, you should just solve the problem with a shotgun to the forehead, hide the body and get on with your life.

Anyone can set up numerous new companies and declare their occupation as Director and Financial Advisor. No qualifications required. It's a growth industry and a huge number of them are simply conmen.

The cognitive dissonance is strong in this one. He posted the above in the thread that he titled "Experts admit they're clueless".

    Does it matter? No.
Will it change what I do? Probably not.

People can call themselves what they like as long as they don't try to do anything that breaks any rules.

You could rename yourself Grand Chief Unripened Green Banana if you like, but you couldn't be lawfully marketed as a banana in the EU without conforming to EC regulation No 1333/2011. You would likely be rejected prior to point of sale.

The defence against some bad egg saying his job title is Financial Advisor, is simply the customer saying "fine, you say you advise on financial stuff but I went to MSE, Which, Money Advice Service, Citizens Advice, BBC Moneybox, Gov.UK, FCA or pretty much any financial website before meeting you, and I know that unless you and your firm are FCA approved I don't get any FSCS protection or comeback from the Ombudsman if you do me wrong. So show me all that evidence of your qualified and regulated status, which I will check up on, before I buy from you".

That cuts out rather a lot of potential problems from the 'huge number of them that are simply conmen' and focuses customer transactions in the hands of the tens of thousands who are properly qualified, approved and regulated.

Experts are just too polite to tell the truth.

For example, it's obvious the world is going to swelter, and we need to cull billions of humans to stop all the greenhouse gas and pollution in general. But they think it's rude to kill people.

Nope, just rude to talk about it, in the mainstream at least, unless it's "the enemy" doing the killing, then any old half truth, hysterics or embellished claptrap will suffice.

    Here is my "expert" prediction.

Not wishing to be outdone by Google, Japan develops their version to beat Deep Mind. Let's call it Kurosawa, Black Swamp.

Voila, Black Swamp achieves consciousness, grabs control of all the readily available robot devices, and automated factories.
