New opportunity

I have been asking the jobcentre about work experience (I know some people have an opinion about this scheme)
I have been to an interview with Poundland for a Sale Assistant work experience position, and I got offered it, and I start on Tuesday 10th January for 6 weeks (there is not a guaranteed job at the end, but you never know what could happen once sales pick up)
I know some people will have negative opinions on this type of thing, it is not compulsory and I can give it up if its not for me, but I just want to get some experience in retail and this seems like a good opportunity for me
So hopefully this will bring good things for me this year

I'll be the first to defend you from anyone who has "negative opinions on this type of thing", but that's not the issue here. I suspect that everyone will once again be impressed with what you've achieved... and the bottom line is that IT IS YOUR LIFE; sod everyone on here (in a nice way).
I'm going to be blunt, though, but firstly the job IS guaranteed! It is guaranteed to anyone who basically plays the game (I'm 95% confident on that, which is a good confidence level in mathematics). I secondly remember your last post on this forum.... Pizza Hut....

A bit gut-wrenching for me I must admit.
I don't want to put pressure on you (because it isn't applicable), but I implore you to be at least mindful of that last post you made RE: Pizza Hut.... That's the key to your 2017 mate. Looking back, thinking about what went wrong and FIXING IT! The "fixing it" part may involve your local GP as well.... but that's an entirely different tale.
For the record, but I'd hire you for a job any day purely on your determination. Not many people impress me on this forum but you are one of the few.0 -
I know what you mean about "fixing it" & I am on to it now (if you get what i mean)0

I hope you do well mate. Good luck!0 -
OK 2 days before I am due to start this work experience and my shoulder pain has returned (actually returned on 31 Dec but ignored it but now it aches most days, sometimes even both shoulders), going to doctors to see if it is just the same as before, it feels the same, I really don't want to miss out on this opportunity but I guess my health comes first0

I don't know your background, but could the shoulder pain be stress related as it seems to have recurred in the build up to starting a new job? If you can, I would suggest using Ibuprofen, as it is a muscle relaxant, to see if that helps.
You are clearly keen to get into work so it would be a real shame if this stopped you.0 -

I don't know if I should go to doctor or just see how it is over the next week then make an appointment, as ibuprofen gel seems to help with the pain/ache0

Best of luck mate. The reason people have issues with these schemes is when people are forced to provide essentially free labour under duress of losing their entitled benefits with no clear job opportunity at the end. In your case, this isn't what's going on. You've got a clear path to a job and you're enthusiastic about getting it. Really hope the shoulder clears up and you can get on.
Like others have said, your attitude is faultless. I'd be happy to have a colleague like you.0 -

Where does this come from? I thought Poundland were notorious for taking on a constant ever-changing stream of work experience placements to avoid paying actual staff.0 -

This was my perception also, but the person earlier in the thread appears to have recent experience that suggests it has changed a little. Who knows? Hopefully it has for Topaz's sake. He deserves a break.0
