I am having a 'Wii ' party for the grand children. We have Guitar Hero with drums, guitars and microphone. We thought we had all the bits but it seems we might have a missing cable.
My question is.. Do the drums connect via a cable to the console or do I just have to sync the remote.

I have a Wii, but not the music games, so can't answer. However, it's worth looking on Youtube, as they have game and equipment reviews ,which include setup demos.0

I've not used the Wii version of this kit but it looks like the Wiimote goes inside part of the drum kit:
