Eczema: DO NOT wash below 60

My dermatologist was very reluctant to do a blood allergy test on me due to cost and a failed skin !!!!! test

But it identified a strong dust mite allergy, and Im dramatically improving by avoiding it - i still have a defective skin barrier, but I feel much better

All this eco advice to wash at 30 or 40 isnt killing off the mites and I believe its a major reason why eczema cases have increased in recent years

Its not publicised enough considering the prevalence of the allergy

It's also not particularly good for the washing machine to be washing on a low temperature all the time. It's good to do a regular high temperature wash (60 or 90 degrees) to keep the machine from getting smelly and gunked up.

If it is a dust mite allergy ,yes, wash all bedding at 60 degrees and have barrier covers on pillows and duvets. These will tell you if they are suitable for dust mite allergy. Also a mattress cover which can be frequently washed at 60 and frequent vacuuming of mattress should improve matters.
Better without carpets if I remember rightly.

  • I had a very positive IgE skin prikc test for dust mites and many other things including all foods that I was eating. My GP sent me for that and I got it done very quickly. Not that my GP did anything about it afterwards.... I doubt that she even looked at the results based upon sub-sequential experiences of her consultant none letter reading.

Chances are that you are allergic to foods so it might be worth you investigating that. Dust mites are not really the source of the problem. Histamine levels will most likely be very high.
  • Taking gluten out of your diet for 6 weeks and eczema generally goes away.

When I tried elimination diets (milk and gluten) I found partial improvements both times, I was negative for an actual allergy for those but I think they might be unhelpful to gut health, or may contain hormones, I am better for tackling dust mites, but not completely, and phototherapy is beginning to help

    Thank you everyone:)
