The one I use is morrisons own. Milk, antioxidant E301, vits A and D.
I've been using it a lot. I still use organic whole milk for the kids but not for me and DH. And I use the dried milk mostly in tea and pancakes.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I have never used dried milk before but started considering it recently for my stockpile. Also got a bread maker this week so will use it for that and had a look around for recipes. Just wanted to add this list of recipes to this thread. http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/RECIPES/hhp/NFDM-Recipes.pdf
Can anyone tell me the size of the Aldi dried milk and current price please?
Going by todays prices, Tesco skimmed fresh milk, 4 pints works out at 0.38p a pint, Tesco Value dried milk works out 0.22p a pint.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Tiff, if you're stockpiling, you're probably better off with lidls - it's £1.49 for four litres worth when reconstituted. It's in a tin though - much more hardy than cardboard.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.
Storecard balance -[STRIKE] £786.60[/STRIKE] £7080 -
Thanks, I didnt know Lidl had some, could only find UHT. Will take a look.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I've used the Lidl dried milk and it's fine."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I am hoping to have as many NSDs this months as I'm finding that staying out of the shops really cuts down my shopping budget! However - bread and milk are the things that we always need 2-3 times a week. I am quite competent and organised at making my own bread and usually have part of one already sliced in the freezer, but milk??!
We don't have a lot of space in the freezer (due to bread, scones, HM sauces and whoopsies!) so currently have no milk in there. However, I always have dried skimmed milk in the cupboard for bread/yoghurt making, so was going to try that to get me through the next few days. I have plenty of full fat in for the little one, so it's just for me for tea/coffee, porridge etc.
I have tried adding some hot water from the kettle and topping up with cold and shaking to blend. Currently in fridge now so we'll see how it tastes tomorrow! I'm sure I'll manage if it tastes rubbish, can always have herbal tea instead, but I really don't want any unexpected visitors having it in their tea and thinking "yuk her tea/coffee is awful"!
I'm sure I saw an American site that said to add vanilla essence or something, but surely that would taste odd! Have only made up one pint so we'll see in the morning....
Many thanks for any help you experts can offer0 -
i have never heard of using vanilla essence, but im sure it will turn out ok ive made up my marvel before from dried and it has always come out tasting ok:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I have an aunt who only ever uses dried milk, buys it when on offer and pays no attention to expiry dates. When we stay with her we always end up buying fresh milk and saying we prefer the taste of fresh milk, but really it is only coz she economises by using far less powder than recommended to save money. If you don't dilute it too much, it tastes fine.
Different, but fine.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
My nan always used to use dried milk. she would make a jug of it up and keep it on fridge.
