Student Loans Company Loan

I started repaying my student loan in 2003. From 2010-2013 I became self employed in my spare time and filled in a tax return each year.

The Student Loan Company annual statements between 2010 and 2013 state: HM Revenues and Customs (Self Assessment): 0 for that period.

I believe it should state: HM Revenues and Customs (PAYE): x for that period (where x is significantly greater than zero!). This is because the student loan was taken directly from my salary by my employer.

I did contact SLC several times between 2010 and 2014 about this and they said it sometimes takes HMRC a while to inform them of the payments and not to worry.

I am concerned about this, particularly after watching Watchdog recently: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/lK9pd480ywgkqFLXQ8cBRP/student-loans. Watchdog has encouraged me to investigate this more thoroughly. Is there a problem here? Why does it state: HM Revenues and Customs (Self Assessment) on the statements even though the loan repayments are taken from my salary (PAYE).

If there is a problem then can I sort this out even though the problem (if there is one) started in 2010. I have all my payslips and P60s since 2010.
