CMS demand 10 years later

Can anyone shed any light on this?

He paid CSA through attachment of earnings until youngest child reached 18 ten years ago.

A letter came in the post two days ago saying that he now owes a further amount.

When payment was made at some £500 per month there were arrears included which were paid up.

Can anyone shed any light as to why 10 years later this can happen?

All replies welcome.

How much is it and is there any explanation offered?

The usual reason is that a recalculation has retrospectively produced a higher liability for a past period.

Has there been a notification letter showing a changed historic assessment?

That seems to imply that CSA regards the liability as already having been established and notified some time - perhaps even ten years - ago.

The best thing to do is call and ask why. Most likely explanation is either an IMA or DMD has been converted to a 'proper' assessment or there was an amount of debt which was temporarily suspended and now recharged
