All Defaults removed & Partial settlements

Hi and Happy New Year to everyone.

I have been managing my debt for 7 years now, i'm very good with paperwork so i've never even been near a court and my creditors only mail me once in a while. My income is low so i've only been able to give token payments for the majority of the time.

I'm now in a good position where all of my defaults have dropped off my credit files as it's been well over the 6 year mark of first default. My creditors obviously know this as the offers i'm currently getting are very low.

My question is this: If I can get some money from my family I could partially settle these debts, of course ensuring that the letter states this is final and I will not be pursued etc. BUT are they able to re-add the default back to show partially settled on my credit file? I personally think they can't.

My credit score (and my wifes) has already risen substancially and I would hate to see it destroyed for another 6 years.

Thank you for your help

The answer is no, defaults should not be re-added. If they are, complain.

The only way they could ruin your credit file now is by getting a ccj that you do not pay within 28 days.

You know that if they are already making low offers to you, they would probably accept even lower ones?
  • That is what I thought, thanks for confirming that.

My main worry now is that they will take to CCJ route as they probably feel that there is no other way so yes I think now is the time to get some money from friends and family and make an offer.

    Thank you
