Redoing a childcare qualification

Hi, I'm hoping someone on here can advise on the best route for me to take.
I'd like a career in childcare, particular long term goals are in Sen or child counselling/play therapy.
I have previously volunteered in a preschool and gained an nvq level 2 (2012 I think) but after I completed the course the Eyfs framework was all changed so I need to retrain in that. I'm now working as a lunchtime supervisor in a school purely to keep my foot in the door but I need more working hours, which I wont get where I am.
I'm looking for preschool or maybe nursery work but the issue I've come across is they either want unqualified and willing to train or qualified with experience. Being out of the loop for a few years I don't think I'd be considered as the latter so would it be worth applying as unqualified? I'm more then willing to train but am unable to do a level 3 as id ideally need to employed. Would I potentially be shooting myself in the foot if I apply as unqualified? Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Speak to local provider to get their view on it. Or your local college - your NVQ may still be accepted, although you may need some on the job training and refreshers.

Unless you need the money, why not give up your lunchtime job and do your NVQ3 full or part time at college?
  • If you are willing to do an apprenticeship, then I would go for it :) (though research the employer before hand to get an idea of their reputation) I originally did a level 1,2 and 3 in health and social care (am 23 now) I originally applied for an unqualified position to help out at a nursery this summer, and from September they offered me a level 2 apprenticeship which was great :) apprenticeship pay isn't great, but I am thrilled to be able to get qualified. Good luck!
