Do you want online or from a store?

If it is a store, go to Hatton Garden in London or the Jewlerry Quarter in Birmingham. Lots of specialists all in one place and good prices.

  • My wife always heads here first - to their shop in Corporation Street in Birmingham. Excellent value for certified diamonds, and I reckon it is cheaper than the jewelry quarter. They are also extremely nice people there.

Sorry, we have no experience of their on line store.

    (PS Are congratulations in order?)
  • I know that my friend (who seems to have an obsession for diamonds and a lot more money than most students) buys a lot of diamond rings on ebay. She always gets them checked afterwards at a jewellers to confirm that they are as specified and in the rare occasions she has a problem either returns them to seller or gets a partial refund. She thinks that it's much cheaper. She even made her boyfriend return her engagement ring (shop bought) and get a similar one on ebay for much less. It all depends really how comfortable you are spending so much online. In terms of shops I have no idea. Diamonds are way out of my (and my boyfriend's) league!

  • Hi !

Really glad I found your posting! As far as precious stones go I think the UK is way behind in the marketplace (sorry to say that!)
You must be aware of the criteria for buying as all diamonds are unique but the difference between lies in the 4c (cut, clarity, colour and carat) so a 2 carat diamond which has a low clarity rate will be less precious than a smaller one with the highest clarity grade. Look at this

Personally, I would travel to either Italy or Amsterdam and buy the stone itself and then have it set in a custom design (you'll have to find a trusted craftsman for this! - check that it is the same stone that is returned to you)
    ;)

  • Try looking at the jewel hut some of their prices seem ok. I wouldn't recommend buying a diamond ring off the internet, it's probably better if you can see the diamond before you buy it. If you are going to spend quite a bit of money ask about the colour, cut, clarity and carat as these are always a factor in price the better the diamond the more you will usually pay.

If not JoBurg, then Amsterdam by all means ...
Used my MB profits to trade London for Cyprus ...
  • Try here - they also have a shop in Bourton on the Water and come well recommended

  • Thanks for all your help.
Much appreciated and plenty to go on.
    Cheers
  • I can recommend a great guy in Hatton Garden. If you PM me, I can give you his details. Very, very good quality diamonds at incredibly reasonable prices.
