Hours between shifts?

What would you deem an acceptable break between shifts?

If you were working until 10pm, 11pm or Midnight would you be happy at having to start at 5am or 6am?

Whats a realistically accpetable limit, assuming there is no legal minimum?

Thanks

Workers have the right to 11hours rest between working days.

The answer depends on several factors, your age, your job (exempted category) and whether alternative arrangements have been agreed through collective bargaining to accommodate compensatory rest.

So working until 10 or 11 and back in at 6 or 7 maybe naughty. Its a Hotel so i guess thats normal?

Or just poor management, who cannot do the rota so that an early shift doesnt follow a late shift without a day off at least.

There is legislation but the questions was...

If I was able to sleep on site(or very short travel) and have reasonable access to meals and rest breaks I would be OK with 6hr between shifts. on a short term basis as long as I got 4hr sleep I would do B2B.

This also assumes that the total hrs are not excessive so I still get free time ideally as an extended period of days off.

I have done this without being asked just to get stuff done but it is more common in 24/7 environments like care and hospitality.

I work in the Civil Service and as part of our shift pattern we have to work a 0700 - 1530 shift and then come back in later that evening and do a 2300 - 0800 shift that night before continuing for a run of 4 night-shifts. We also have to do 1500 - 2330 shifts and then back in for a 0700 - 1530 occasionally too.

Not too bad for me as i live close to work, but not very nice for those people with a 45 minute drive each way, plus the fact you have to get in at least 10-15 minutes before the shift starts so that you are in place and the last shift can handover and go home!

My experience is not recent but that used to be the norm in front of house roles.

worst i did was 6pm - 6am, plus because it was an airport job it was about a total of 3 hours travel there and back leaving me 9 hours for eating and sleeping. Was 4 days on 3 off to be fair and we used to sleep during lunch and down time.

Some of the replies here just show the way in which businesses abuse their workers if no one challenges them. One of the great things that EU legislation does is to protect workers rights/health and safety.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
