Weight Watchers or Slimming World

So which one would everyone recommend weight watchers or slimming world ?

  • A friend has done WW - she had to count points for everything. I'm on SW and it's so easy as there is little counting. You have a Healthy Extra A (dairy) and B (fibre), which has to be weighed or measured, but there is a 'Grab and Go' section, which means that instead of weighing out cereal, for example, you can use your H/E B for certain cereal bars, or your H/E A for a specific amount of Babybel or Laughing Cow cheese portions - great for someone like me, who doesn't like weighing and measuring.

Syns have to be counted on SW, but they're easy to do. You can have 15 stns a day or 105 a week. Some members of our group save their syns for alcohol, some have chocolate or crisps, and some use them for mayonnaise, gravy, etc - or you can mix and match as long as you count them.

SW fits in easily with family meals and is a long term healthy eating plan, rather than a diet. I don't know how well WW fits in with family meals.

SW has vouchers from now until the end of January in various magazines and in this weekeknd's Mirror newspapers. This is for free membership. It costs £4.95 per week, You can buy a countdown, which means buy six weeks meetings for the price of five (or twelve for the price of ten). There is no hard sell for books or magazines, at least in my group.

    I don't know about WW.

    Hi Amy,

We have a new Slimming World thread here (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/71843008#Comment_71843008) if you want to have a look and get the basics of the plan that Slimming World currently do. Ask any questions you want, we're quite a friendly bunch :D

I've done both Slimming World and WW(very briefly) and both work if you stick to them. It depends what you're looking for in an eating plan and what suits you.

WW has a really good app, bar code scanner etc so it's easy to keep track of your points, but I found it a little restrictive and boring to weigh and measure everything.

SW is a little bit more about gauging portion sizes by eye - i.e. a meal would be one third veg, one third protein and one third carbs.

    Hope this helps a little..
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

  • Slimming World is when you have a lotta weight to lose and Weight Watchers is when you have a little to lose in my daft opinion.

Me and my friend put this together last year - not 100% sure if prices are correct and **I'm sure it's missing a load more info, open to amendment

    Weight Watchers Pro's
Silver 7 sticker awards for each half stone lose
    F...book Secret Group
Easy to buy access food shop online for bars, crisps, sauces
(Though a lot of their products have now died down with national retailers)
    Consultants are employed
Don't have to pay cash at meetings as can do the pay monthly online option which may save money
Reduced price on magazine to members
Think there is a longish money back guarantee if you don't lose weight, **I think it's 10 months, could be wrong
There was one year WW did their own 'Xmas selection box' which I though was cute so they are innovative with their foody ideas

    WW Cons's
    Smart points based on weight
    Online is extra
Don't feel the support esp if you are a return member as they will find you on there system which can be embarrassing if you try say your a brand new member
**£6.25 a week, plus £2.99 if you want online support (I think this is a 'cash paying' only member)
    Raffles £1
If friends join it's only a discount from the shop sale items
You are only allowed 2 weeks off a year
CPA can be a hassle if you set up paying monthly and it's your responsibility to cancel so if you don't attend meetings and don't cancel you will still be charged automatically

    Slimming World
    Pro's
Syns not based so much on individual weight
And can be flexible/saved for another day if having a meal out for example
£4.95 a week and that includes online account access to record weight each week in a nice graph, look up syn values
Certificate and stickers for each milestone
Slimmer of week fruit bowl to take home
    You shouldn't be going hungry
    Raffles are 50p
    Free Tea/Coffee/Juice at meetings
Invite a friend and you'll more then likely get a free week
Better atmosphere and more personal touch
More welcoming if you are a returner
You are allowed 6 week's off a year
    F...book secret group
Earlier release date of magazine to members at group
Meals and related healthy offers at Iceland available
Though home cooking endorsement is also at their heart
Can buy block weeks (in advance) to save money
**Some consultants will have a PDQ machine for card payments if your lucky
Money back guarantee at 4 weeks if no weight loss

    SW Cons
Can't buy Hi Fi bars anywhere except direct at meetings and fleebay where they can be expensive because of the exclusivity (this may be changing I think)
    Their consultants are self employed
They will charge for missed weeks (capped at 2)
No option to pay online - unless you are actually signing up as online member

To be honest I miss Rosemary Conley! xxx

Neither, just eat less and cut out any low fat or so called healthy options or processed food.

    Good luck fj
