getting a sim-only deal

Hi,

I'm a few months discharged from BR and I want to continue building my credit worthiness, not to get into trouble again but for a mortgage.

I am on the electoral roll, and have been using the Cashplus creditbuilder (as well as the Credit Improver program), both for many months.

Basically do I stand a reasonable chance off getting accepted for a sim only contract?

Thanks

Ditch the credit builder, I signed up after much research but it's actually more harmful than good if looking for a mortgage down the line...

Sim only wise, I was accepted for a Vodafone Sim only option at £9.50, 1 month after discharge.

Take the cheapest sim only available, reason being, you pass the credit check (hopefully) and can call the network to upgrade to a better tariff once approved. I called up and changed before the sim even arrived.

I'm 3 months into my sim only Vodafone contract in a couple of weeks. I get the green payment markers on my credit reports and once the 3 payments are paid I am able to upgrade my Vodafone sim only to a 'full contract' with handset, no further credit check.

Put simply, 3 months after connection to Vodafone sim only, you are approved for any contract term and handset without further credit check criteria. You can also upgrade through Vodafone direct or CPW etc.

Avoid networks like Asda and Tesco, credit information did not appear on my report.
  • I was already with BT for my landline and internet, they allowed me a Sim only deal one day into discharge I have a great deal with them basically (unlimited everything) for about £14 per month.

I did recently request to upgrade to an I Phone 7plus but they declined me (6 months after discharge)

Although I was accepted for a Think Money (Capital One) Credit card 2 weeks into discharge, I'm hoping for a credit increase any week now.

Also register for ClearScore which is a 100% free to check your file, they also email you each month to let you know if your score has gone up or down and the reasons why.

    Hope this help.s

I did apply for Vodafone sim only deal two months after discharge but was refused despite being with them on pay as you go for more than a year. I decided to try other networks did apply for Virgin 30-day sim only plan and was accepted with no questions. It is also reported on my Equifax credit report and I think it has the same (positive) effect on credit report as 12-month sim only plans. There are a lot of options/networks to choose from so I think you have a good chance to get sim only plan. Good luck!

I was declined online by vodafone about a month after IVA completion, but when I called them they setup sim only over phone no problems

Virgin gave me a full contract during my IVA. They didn't run a credit check but I think that's because I already had my TV, landline, and broadband with them continually for 10 years even prior to my IVA and had never been in arrears
