in Cutting tax
Trying to do my husband's assessment. As his passport has lapsed, have had to answer the credit check questions, but then come grinding to a halt with the message "technical difficulties try again in 5 minutes". Am I doing something wrong? Never had a problem before.

I had exactly the same problem earlier this month whist trying to access my personal tax account. I had previously signed in without problems.
On trying the last time I got an error code and asked for a passport number which I do not have,I queried this and was told HMRC had changed their system and I would not be able to log in until they had developed the next stage of the scheme as it was still a Beta system.
I accepted this at first then then had second thoughts so I contacted them again this time I was told I had to access by using Gov.com.veriy. I did this using Experian this required answering a number of questions and then I was able to sign in.
Strangely when I try to sign in now I have to use the verify route and get my access code via Experian rather than HMRC but at least I can access my account.0 -
Welcome to the rubbish world of HMRC software.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0

Seems incredible to believe that they want us to use a CRA to access their systems because they are incapable of doing it themselves. What an absolute shambles. I'm dreading their new way of doing self assessment - it just seems like a nightmare waiting to happen.0
