You can mount some bar ends further in on the handlebars, you'd just need to take the grips, brakes and shifters off to slide them right in. Or as Dave has suggested some tri or aero bars might do what you want although I haven't looked into them personally.

Thats exactly the thing, and in that location on the bar.
I have looked again at my handlebars and if I trim the grips then I should bet able to fit them there, and then glue the grips back.0 -
