He did 2 weeks work (had to sign off for those 2 weeks)

Worked 7-5 every day (or a bit later)

EDIT: Just found out he has been given £300 for 2 weeks heavy labour work (which requires a chainsaw and other licenses)

Maybe they are paying him the apprentice wage without him agreeing to it?

Hes aged 28

Did he ask the rate before he started the job? is that before or after tax? Just get him to ask for a payslip and confirmation of his rate. If it's below NMW then inform HMRC they're breaking the rules, or at least inform his employer that it's not legal to pay him so little.

If that figure is the gross wage then he has been massively underpaid. As Sharon87 said, he needs to get the payslips and question the payment. If no success report them to HMRC. If the job was obtained via JCP speak them too.
  • Was he taken on on an employed or self employed basis? Didn't he get told the rate of pay before working?
