same people off every christmas

I get 30 days holiday a year after some 28 years service and every year we ask whats happening christmas and are told "Let you know" Numerous times tried to book it off and told nobodies having it, you will have to use your holiday up before etc. Then again this year its the same people who have got it off who have worked there alot less time and its not even or rather conviently up on the holiday rota. Well the few of us that are going in the next three days are gonna make a point that we too have families we too are just as entitled to it as its the same people every year who keep quiet and manage to get it off. We have to submit holiday forms and get them signed its even been discovered that one of the chosen few asked for it after someone else was refused it and they were given it which has really fired things up.I would add it is not critical that the place even opens and the work could easily wait till the following week. Last year we were told if you do the 24 hours OT you can have the three days then when we did it we were then told sorry you will have to come in and we will pay you the OT instead best part of it those again who had booked it didnt even do any OT to help out

As things stand it seems to be all one way traffic. i.e. management taking all the time and giving nothing back. That being the case you need to play their own game. Only do overtime if it suits you, start and finish on time, don't do work outside your own area. If / when this is raised at 1-2-1 or review make it clear why your attitude has changed.

Given that you've been unhappy with this for years, why have you not found another job?

I imagine she must be pretty bored of hearing the same thing year after year!

Have you looked for something else, is there a reason why you are staying with this employer?

Just turn up to work and sit around doing nothing.
If everyone does the same, the management will soon get the message.

AS tellit01 says, if you all start to work to rule, they will soon realise that they have managed to irritate a large number of their loyal workforce. At that point, they will start to listern.

Also, when you go back in the new year get your holiday form in and spread the word that 'you have been invited to spend Christmas at your aunts house in France (or somwhere else)'.

I would be wary of running around making accusations at work unless I knew all the facts.

Have you tried to speak to your colleagues and negotiate with them a rota that is fair depending on who had the time off the previous years?

None of us want to work in between, but we accept that we have to be fair to the team or resentment will build anyway which would not make it a pleasant environment. Some people are more willing than others to do, but they then get priority if they do ask for first choice.

Perhaps all of the people getting the time off are "mobilty" (sic) car users who are getting their own back for your appalling views on the disabled.

Thankfully now retired, but even where rota systems had been introduced for annual and/or christmas leave it was far from uncommon for people to come in and say they'd had to book leave for one reason or another. You could almost lay money on it being the same people year after year, and they got away with it.
There was even one person who had Xmas / New Year off for 3 consecutive years and was told she could not have the next one. She still came in with holiday booked, claiming she had forgotten the conversation!

That falls to unsatisfactory management, I'd bet it was a poor dept to work in.
