Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Im another one who is loving my flask right now. It's such a joy to have a lovely hot tea or coffee whilst I'm whizzing about the place.

  • Why didn't I think of that Kaz?!

I do have a flask as like Bob I'm usually all over the place. If I'm out and about tomorrow I'll pick up another flask and a tub for sugar, then I can just do that and it'll save me having to spend any money in the canteen at all :-)
  • In other news bf was talking about going on holiday this year. He rarely gets the school holidays off work so it could be the only year for a good while we could take a two week holiday.

I was getting a bit carried away thinking about it but this would set me back a lot. We went away in October the 5 of us, it was pretty spur of the moment as got an amazing deal on Disney and I had my LBM before we went away and couldn't stop thinking about why I'd done such a stupid thing when I was £10K in debt!!! And then I added it all up and realised it was well over £10K.

I don't want to fall into the same trap where I spend money and then feel guilty and don't even enjoy it. But at the same time I have to live too as the girls won't be young forever. So hard trying to find the balance and know whats right.

Easier to be frugal in January when it seems everyone else is but I know come early spring he'll be wanting to look, and he has no idea the extent of my debt problems, he thinks I'm the one whos good with money :-o
  • Spendy day today! £40 in MrT but I basically stocked up on everything we use plenty off. 40 saches of porridge, 6 bags of pasta, 6 sauces, 6 garlic breads, 8 pizzas for freezer, 2 bags 42 chicken dippers, 36 cereal bars, 2 big cartons of milk, 3 x 40 packs of nappies and 18 toilet rolls :T

It must read like our diet is horrendous but the girls mostly eat at school, grannys and nursery so the freezer stuff is really for me  my biggest problem is being out of the house and on the go for 13hrs a day, by the time I get home I can barely be bothered cooking so mostly just leave it and any fresh stuff i've bought goes off

I do really like frozen veg though and could eat a big bowl of that plain for dinner quite easily, my freezer is full of this so that should be quick and easy along with the soups I'm making stock off. Need to get some more tubs for this as fancy doing a tatty soup this weeked :)

Work is mad just now, I barely sit down and always feel tired on a Monday. So much waiting around in this DFW world, I'm counting the days until I have more money to pay off debt, its like an addiction!
  • Positives for the week:

Came in under my £100 spending budget :-D total for the week is £98.69 so just by the skin of my teeth! I feel like I was really frugal this week though and just managed it so need to review this in future and see if its sustainable long term. £40 petrol, £45 food (although did do a major stock up of nappies, toilet roll etc which should bring costs down for a few weeks) £10 for electric and £3 for screen-wash. Doesn't sound like a lot does it? But I did it and I'm very chuffed.

Also got notified yesterday I'm receiving a payrise for work completed at home over Christmas! I think it should work out an extra £30-£40 a month after deductions so I'm over the moon! This will just go into my current account buffer.

    Negatives:

Cooker broke last night!! I have £200 in my emergency pot so I do have some funds to do something about it (and this is exactly what its meant for) but I feel terrible having to spend it the first month its started. I still have a gas hob and slow cooker so for now I'll see how long I can go without. Considering this time last year I'd have probably used this as an excuse to rip out the whole kitchen and put a new one on credit I'm taking these emotions I'm feeling as a positive!:rotfl:

Ah boo to the cooker breaking, sorry to hear it.

Reading back a few posts, did you enjoy your Disney holiday or just not at all because of the cost?

My oven broke in the holidays. It was the element and my OH googled/YouTubed how to change it. We got a new one for £30 and he replaced it.

    Honestly it was so easy.
  • Thanks Louby I did think it might have been that but the ignition for the gas won't work either which I don't think would be caused by the element...

Managed fine this week without it I'm happy to report!
  • Bob I actually had a great time on holiday and the girls had do much fun! Its more the guilt of knowing you've spent a lot of money on something you wish you shouldn't have. Not a regret as such but more of a "that was pretty stupid" moment. :(
  • Well this has been a pretty successful week in Debt Slaying World!

I've reshuffled my weekly stats as I actually fund my "living account" on a Wednesday and it was getting very confusing running my budget friday-friday as my balance never matched what i actually had left.

So I would have been under but due to this I came in at £105, not too bad at all! :T

Forgot my lunch for the first time so that was an unplanned spend but it happens.

Also was a bit naughty at the weekend and treated myself and bf to a tub of B&Js ice cream EACH!! But my god it was beautiful! :j

I ended up paying the full and final on my fridge. Only £20 or so less than the actual balance and I had to wipe out my savings but it's one less debt to pay and it'll save me £40 a month. If my pay rise is £40 that will be an extra £80 a month to build up my savings again:T

Busy weekend planned as its bfs sons birthday so we have a day out tomorrow, but i've been saving my change up and have enough to cover the cost of me and dds tickets and possibly some coffee and juice where we are going. Looking forward to it! I feel i've been thrifty since holiday in Oct and have been staying in often at the weekend just to avoid spending money so this will be a really nice family day out.
