Windows 10 won't boot

Last week I put in a new HDD and installed windows 10. Its a retail version I've installed on multiple machines. Everything was fine for a week but now all I get is a flashing cursor top right and nothing. No keyboard, no mouse nothing.

Any idea's?

Note. This computer has never connected to the internet so its not an update issue.

  • If it won't POST, try redoing all plugs, reseating CPU/RAM and any cards. Other than that, sounds like the mobo is gone.
  • Can you get to the BIOS screen? (tap F2 when right when you switch the machine on). If so is the hard disk showing up on there?

If you haven't disabled 'Fast Startup' then, when switched on, it's worth holding down the power button for several seconds until it switches off.

I've had times when that will at least get out of a 'flashing cursor' situation, although obviously it doesn't cure the underlying issue.

CPU or Motherboard are dead. I've put the HDD in an older Optiplex and it all works. Well, after 15 minutes of 'preparing devices'.

    Thanks to all who replied.
