NHS job offer - E-Roster Database Administrator

Hi there

I wonder if anyone on here has had experience with the NHS' E-Rostering system?? I previously worked with the Health Service working on ESR during an implementation period within financial services for a few years, was some time ago but now an agency have asked if i would be interested in taking this role working on Database starting early January. There are various roles within the department and i have been told i will cover a number of different areas.

The client have taken interest in the duties i worked on with ESR but have not been told much else by the agency yet, as due to meet the manager shortly to go over things, would be helpful if anyone could offer an insight having worked on the system they use before i attend the 'interview' ...

The agency who called me about the role seem keen to get me in but i asked for a person spec to be emailed by end of today and haven't received it. aarrgh. it's a band 3 position this one.

If anyone has experience with this system in NHS any heads up would be appreciated.

Most NHS Trusts use HealthRoster. Current version is v10. You can find info on it from google - some Trusts publish worked examples of shift allocations. For Band 3 you wouldn't be expected to have more than cursory knowledge of it already - having some knowledge of ESR will be fine.

it is horrible, doesn't work (at least where I am) has no logical sense and creates a lot of illwill amongst staff and takes management far longer to do the off duty now than when it was on paper

Our Trust has switched from Health roster to 'Employee Online'
I think a lot of the problems with it are to do with local implementation - i.e. arbitrary rules and restrictions on requests (E.O. doesn't have the feature that allowed you to attach a priority level to your req. so management prefer to just not let us make requests)

Employee Online is a part of HealthRoster, although I appreciate to the end user the experiences are very different so would seem like completely different systems.

You are right though - a lot of bad experiences are down to poor local implementations; although a lot of that can be down to resistance to change.
