Desperate Pension Advice re selling

Hi Guys
I wonder if someone can help me. My husband has a pension that he paid into for about 3 years with a previous employer. The pension fund is worth about £6k which is the exact amount that we are in debt by.
Does anyone know if it is possible to sell a pension fund? The company the pension is with said we couldn't get a cash value for it but are there any companies out there like the ones that buy endowment policies that might buy a pension fund?
Your help would be gratefully appreciated
