Freezer Door left open

Options
I left my freezer door open, just ajar, for around 24 hours.

When I came to open it tonight, some things near the front of the freezer had defrosted entirely, but were still cold. I have binned those (e.g. a chicken breast).

However, stuff further back and in the bottom compartment, were still solid with ice visible in the packets. This includes fairly small/thin things like peppers and prawns. Will these be safe to just leave in the freezer and use in future (except I binned the prawns anyway).

    Feel for you!
Broadly speaking, I reckon that if they are solid, they are OK (probably wouldn't give them to anyone vulnerable, but OK for most of us)
However, I wouldn't bin what's been defrosted, just cook it, and either use it within 3 days, or freeze as a cooked dish -I know this is not the best time of year to be doing that!

If you dig that chicken out of the bin and cook it immediately, you can cool it down and lob it back into the freezer.

Anything raw you can do that with.

All the stuff still frozen would be OK.
  • It is all ruined. You will die of food poisoning. I all take it off your hands and test it for you.
  • Thanks, I thought it would be safe but wanted to check!

The chicken breast and prawns were only loosely covered and were covered in wine that had thawed and spilled as it was just in small jars with loose fitting lids.

    Rinse and cook

Do love a bit of chicken in wine myself :)
