Our Christmas present to ourselves

MrTeapot and I just made an extra OP of £327, instead of buying each other Christmas presents. There was nothing either of us particularly wanted or needed. Plus, this amount took our mortgage below £200k - seeing it start with a 1 instead of a 2 feels amazing. :T
Our friends think we're weird and unromantic so I came to tell people who'll understand.
Merry Christmas! :money:

That's great...well done!!!
BTW, you're not weird and unromantic...ignore anyone who says so.0 -
Well done PTP, its great when you hit certain barriers.
Ignore your friends, if you don't need anything I bet seeing that 1 will bring a bigger smile then an unwanted or unneeded gift.

Its not even £327 of stuff you dont need (or even want!), its maybe £600 over the lifetime of the mortgage ! Good on you for not being suckered in.
One of my kids is buying me for xmas something I do want, its a little gizmo for my phone, costs about £3.50, I'd rather have that they they waste £50 on something i dont want or need just because thats "what you do at Christmas".
It aggravates me when you see posts here from people along the lines of I"m up to the limits of my overdraft / ran up £2k of credit card debts "due to it being Christmas" as if it was a force of nature that they had no volition about.
Rant over, I feel better now0 -
We did likewise. Well done. Feels great doesn't it! Plus that's a great Christmas milestone0

We bought presents, but we stuck to a budget as we do most years and I've made some extra payments off of the credit cards we've used to fund some of our house renovations and have topped up our SIPPs0

What a lovely idea pinkteapot! We have already scaled down our gifts (no more than useable stocking-fillers) but I wish we'd thought of this. Perhaps for Valentine's Day...***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***
