Barclays 'Authentication' card
Mayday
I hold TPA on my son's Barclays account while he works overseas.
His debit card expired a while ago and on requesting a replacement, an 'Authentication' card was sent.
Can anyone explain what one of these cards is as opposed to a debit card? Is there a difference?

If its the same as the one I have for my parents' a/c with NatWest then it's just for when you need a card to log into the website etc, but cannot be used to withdraw cash at an ATM or spend in a shop etc.0

Correct as Msallen said. It's just for accessing online banking and shouldn't be accepted as ID at the branch counter under any circumstances (although it's so rarely seen that many cashiers probably would try to accept it...): )0
