Default OS Daily Monday 19 December
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Surprise!!! :T good morning from sunny Sardinia, I am wide awake and thought I'd come and say hi.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Actually it hasn't been sunny at all, we have a fair bit of rain and terrible stormy wind. I was at my mother's flat on the 4th floor of a very exposed building, she has (for reasons only known to her) a great big metal pan on the balcony, that kept slamming on the side of the balcony and clanging like a bell, drove us crazy. Together with the TV always on full blast (she is deaf) and the heating cranked up to oven-like temperature, it made it for a very uncomfortable experience. The town is small but very pretty, but after 3 days we had walked it all, three times! And my mum, bless her, can't stop nagging.

So we said we wanted to see a bit of Sardinia, packed our bags and did a runner! We are now in Sassari, a gorgeous little town on the north west of the island, in a nice, clean and very economical B&B.

Today we are catching a coach to go and see my dad's brother and his family, but will be back here in Sassari tonight at dinner time.

Last night we found a magical little place, a wine bar where you order drinks for a fixed price and you get a free buffet of food, all sorts of salads and cooked meats, even as vegetarians we pigged out! With a bottle of really good wine and two slices of delicious (bought) cake, the bill came to 35 Euro in all! Just as well I don't live here, or I would become a very fat wino! The food is spectacular and very tempting and the wine excellent, cheap and plentiful.

We will be back at my mum's for Christmas but then on 27th December we booked a nice hotel in Alghero, on the north west coast.

I am sorry I could not stay at my mum's all the time but both DH and I now realise that we made a serious error of judgement in thinking we could spend a fortnight with her, in her home. My mum is old and very set in her ways, very critical of anything that is not her ways, and very vocal about it. No matter how much she loves us she must find it difficult to have us around, especially because we cook "weird" things - I brought with me quinoa and other stuff that make my life easier re. intolerances etc, so we don't even eat like her. I can understand that she feels invaded and can't stop nagging and controlling, but it was driving me nuts. Hey ho.

With all this going on I haven't had the time to catch up with the last few days, what's been going on with you all, but I hope you are all well and preparing for Christmas without too much stress.

Hugs to all who need them and well wishes to all the poorlies. xx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
