CCJ papers for old debt 6 years+

Hi,
I have just received some CCJ papers through the post regarding finance that I took out on a car back in 2009. I paid a few payments (cannot remember how many) and then stopped paying due to no money. (I was only 18 at the time, didnt think of possible harm it could cause when trying to apply for future credit!)
Anyway, I dont know what to do with regards to the CCJ papers. Ive tried researching it abit but it gets too in depth for me and I dont understand.
From what I do understand, Im assuming this debt is statuted barred or very nearly is. I have no way of finding out as and when my last payments were as I dont want to 'reset' my last contact date with them.
My CCJ papers were sent to my last known address which luckily is my mums address, otherwise I wouldnt have even received them. Its dated they were issued on the 12th but werent received by my mum until 17th. I only have a week left before I need to submit my defence
It says i can ask for this to be extended to 28 days but does this mean Ive accepted it the debt? I really dont understand where to go from here.
Is there a way I can contact the finance place (Think it was blackhorse Llyods) to ask when i last made payment?
*ANY* help at all will be helpful. Me and my partner are in the process of buying our council home under the Right to buy scheme so really cant afford for this CCJ to go onto my name after building up my credit history for so long:(
The debt is for £3000 so I cant just pay it off. I dont mind setting up a small payment deal with them if it turns out that its not statuted barred, just as long as this stupid ccj doesnt go under my name!!!
Thanks!

Hi,
You need to acknowledge service online, that will give you 28 days in total to file a defence.
Doing this does not admit any liability.
You are probebly best going with the statute barred defence, you do not have to prove anything, this puts the ball firmly in the creditors court, they must prove it isn't statute barred.
I would head over to Legal beagles and get advice from them.
They are more geared up for things of a legal nature.

Thank you for your quick reply.
I will ask for the 28 days if thats the case. Gives me a bit longer.
I cannot seem to find Legal beagles? Is it on this site?0 -

or more precisely
http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/forumdisplay.php?105-Received-a-Court-Claim
If the issue date is 12/12, then it is not considered 'served' until 17/12 (which was the day it arrived)
You then have 14 days to respond or, if you acknowledge service (you can do this online) 28 days, giving you till 14 Jan to put something together.0
