Possible overpayment. What to do next?

Hi,

My husband has, I think, been overpaid.

He was employed by this company from August until December 2nd and today has been paid. He resigned during his training, so gave a weeks notice. He was expecting something As he worked between his previous payday (25/11/2016) and his final working day was 2/12/16.

Before he left, he didn't think his current payslip was correct, as he had used some holiday days, and we think that today, he's been paid what he was owed, plus around 50 hours holiday, which he had taken. He spoke to his line manager, HR and payroll before leaving and they said all would be updated, and he received his P45 this week, although no payslip to check everything. A weeks gross pay would be around £300, and the amount he's been paid is just under £550.

He's going to try calling his old employer on his lunch break, and of course, that money will remain untouched until we have confirmation of what is his and what isn't. Do we need to do anything else at this point?

I was thinking of putting it in to a separate account so that I can budget properly until his first pay from his new employer, but I'm not sure whether to do that at this point? I certainly don't want any direct debits to eat in to any of that money for now and looking online, it seems it could take a while for this to be resolved if there's lots of paperwork on the employers side to calculate the correct amount.

Needless to say, I can't wait for my own pay day later this week so I can sort our budget. It's a tight month this month as my husband won't get paid from his new employer until the end of January. So frustrating!

I would email or write rather than simply phoning or, at the very least, confirm his understanding of what was said on the phone by email. Apart from that no.
