reilable collections

Hi, can anyone offer me some advice.
i received a letter this morning from reliable collections agency. had my address on it but only my initial, and surname rang the company who advised it was a debt relating to previous address, this turned out to be my mothers address, (we have the same initial and surname). how they got me, i haven't a clue. anyway. told my mum to ring them which she did. they say she owes around nine hundred pounds worth of debt for fashion world catalogue. my mum swears that she would have spent no more than a couple of hundred in this catalogue. although does not remember leaving a debt. she moved from that address and all post had been redirected. this was around four years ago. i believe her because it is unlike my mum to have any debt. anyway they said they will send through statements of what she bought etc, but more than likely a lot of the debt will be charges the company have incurred. if she had forgotton about the debt, how would she know about any charges. can they make her pay these charges as this is the first contact she has had from them?. they are also vague about statements, saying that they only go so far back?. i am worried that my mum is going to have to pay for something she shouldn't have to. is there anything we can do?

    Hi Ami,

I think if you repost this in the debt forum or on https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk you may get more help.

Basically you need to send the company either £1 for a CCA request or £10 for a Subject Access Request to find out information on the debt.

Hopefully others on here will be able to help you.
