Lidl Smoked Bockwurst - Does it need cooking?

Hi, I ventured to Lidl to this morning to check out their fruit and veg offers. While I was there I bought some Smoked Bockwurst (sausage like things), I assumed that they needed cooking but there are no cooking instructions on the packet, it just says crunchy fresh and to store at +7degrees C. Does anyone know if these are already cooked or do I need to cook them. Don't want tp poison DH and DD later!

Thanks :o

This states that you can simmer or grill it but to be honest they look like frankfurthers (which can also be simmered/grilled) which are usually pre-cooked anyway. You can probably have them hot or cold.
  • I really don't recommend eating any smoked wiener type sausage without heating it. Bacteria will still grow in most smoked meats unless preservatives are added to the meat mixture.

DIRECTIONS: To Heat: Place in a pan of water and bring to a boil. Turn heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes.
RECIPE TIPS: Traditionally Bockwurst is served with sweet mustard and is frequently accompanied with sliced radishes, rye bread and Munich beer.

    Some Bock-wurst facts:

    BOCKWURST
This lightly spiced pork and veal sausage is traditional in Munich, where they are eaten in much the same manner as Parisians eat onion soup after a night on the town. Once a year from mid-September through late October Bockwurst shares the honor with Munich beer as the traditional food of the Ocktoberfest. Ocktoberfest dates back to October 17, 1810 on which day King Ludwig I and his bride Theresa were married. Each year Theresa Meadow in Munich comes alive with visitors from around the world who come to celebrate the harvest, Munich beer and Bockwurst.
Schaller & Weber Bockwurst has won Medals of Honor awarded at International Exhibitions in Holland, Austria and Germany. It is made with 100% pure pork and veal. No fillers, additives or preservatives.

its a smoked meat, probably vacuum sealed at its best. if its within the eat by day and there are no cooking instructions then I would say its safe to consume without cooking.

It's perfectly safe to eat it without heating - those and similar types of sausages are very popular (often traditional) in Middle and East of Europe
You can grill, fry or boil it, use in caserrolles, pizas etc. ...
The way of using it is almost endless...

  • Why has a thread from 2007 been resurrected. I imagine that the OP has worked out how to eat it by now!!

I don't care about a bit of necroposting, but now I'm being tormented by the thought of currywurst! I neeeed currywurst!
  • I do when the resurrected post is answering a 4 year old question! If the resurrector had a question, fine!
