Refreezing cakes, scones and pastries

Is it safe to refreeze surplus items like fruit cake, scones or other pastries which have been stored in the freezer but proved to be surplus to needs for a particular occasion?
0bviously one wouldn't refreeze items like fish, meat or chicken but I wonder if cakes are lower risk biologically from a bacterial point of view.

No it's not a good idea. The cells change as the food freezes and why take the risk.

I doubt it'd kill you (although I'd be wary of freezing anything with a cream or fruit filling in it), but they're not likely to be very nice once defrosted. Cakes and suchlike get freezer burn very easily and I find that they tend to dry out when frozen even once, so twice is likely to leave them pretty inedible.

Fruit cake tends to last for a while anyway if you store it in an airtight container, or cling-filmed really tightly.
