Wrong figures on P45

Hi was wondering if anyone could help clear something up for me?
Basically I finished working with an employer in 2013 got my P45 back then which says I paid no tax whilst working for that employer 13/14. I've been going through some old paperwork including my pay slips. I noticed that on 2 of the payslips from 2013 i actually paid tax and made a student loan repayment because I was over the thresholds.
I know that if you earn below the personal income allowance for the year you are then entitled to a tax rebate later on. Back then for 13/14 the allowance was 9440 which I was well below.
There has obviously been an error made some where I just want to know who I should contact about this hmrc or my old employer? Thanks

Have you got all of the payslips for that year ? If a tax code is changed mid year any overpaid tax will be refunded through your pay packet.0

Yes I've got all of them. My tax code stayed the same for 13/140

You need to check the tax basis as well. A tax code can be applied in two ways non-cumulative when each payment is looked at in isolation and cumulative when the payment is looked at combined with all previous payments. When you paid tax you were probably on the emergency tax code which was 944L non-cumulative and this was probably changed to the normal tax code at the time of 944L cumulative at which point any over deducted tax would be refunded to you. If you look at later payslips and find the one where your tax to date changed to zero there should be a minus tax figure which has been added to your gross pay.0 -
Try adding up all the components on every payslip to check against all the figures on the P45. The P45 figures should also match the "to date" figures on the final payslip.0

Check on subsequent payslips that you didn't get it refunded automaticallymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
