Where to get advice for non-charity not for profit

Sorry no idea where to put this, but wonder if it's along the self-employment lines.

I'm involved in an annual event, run by a voluntary committee and we feel big enough to warrant making "it" official.

We don't do charitable work, but we do raise funds for a nominated charity at the event and this year donated several thousand. We have a very healthy sum of money behind us to run next years event.

We don't think we can register as a charity, but somebody suggested perhaps setting up a limited company and we could all be directors or employees (I can't remember exactly).

Do you know where we could get advice on this? I'm not sure what I'm googling, to be honest, so I'm not coming up trumps. Is it an accountant/bank/lawyer we need?

I'd avoid a limited company at all angles if possible.

Google "setting up non profit organisation uk". The two links I have provided are from a well repspected organisation and directly on the gov.uk site, and are the two top non-sponsored links.

I'd avoid a LTD company as you don't need to be one, and the hassle that comes with it can be an absolute nut ache.

What you do register as is up to you, but that's my experience.

Thank you, social enterprise seems to have been the term I was missing.
