New years

I'm not a big fan of New Years celebrations, too busy, too loud and too much like forced fun. However I'm sure there must be simple ways to see in the new year that don't cost too much. How do you spend yours?

I expect to be at home, in my jim jams, in front of the telly.0

I spend it asleep
but when we used to stay up, I would do a finger food supper and a couple of bottles of wine for the two of us.

I agree with it being too crowded and too forced. I think letting go of the idea that you have to participate is helpful. Choose to do what is enjoyable for you, and if you don't like the new year's eve stuff, then maybe plan a nice meal on new year's day, maybe even brunch followed by a nice walk.0

I'm another who has never been into the Hognamay party. Many years I've been in bed sleeping or up watching tv.
However, the last few years we have started going for a walk at the bells. All wrapped up, with a torch and camera. It's been great to go out and watch the shenanigans, Xmas lights and fireworks some have then. However, we live in a town centre that's fairly safe with cctv and hubby is 6ft 2 so I feel safe.
We've come back from our walk around looking at all the lights and lit some candles in garden and had a glass of wine before heading in doors. This year we're going to bring the fire pit out and after a brisk walk round, lite it up and spend a little more time outside finishing that bottle off :cool:0 -
This year I'll be in Australia at my step-daughter's wedding on New Year's Eve. But normally we raise a toast at midnight, watch Jools Holland, and then go to bed.
In my ideal universe I would spend New Year's Eve taking the Christmas decorations down, have a quick hoover round, and start the New Year all fresh and clean. Hate Christmas decorasions hanging around after New Year.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Must admit that's something that's gone with age. I only used to mark the occasion when I was younger because so many other people seemed to.
These days I don't bother because I don't see the point. There's been thousands of years behind us - of which I've had over 60. There will be thousands of years after us - of which I'll have about 20 I expect.
So - I don't really see it - just because the calendar says a different date on it.
Now celebrating personal achievements on the other hand - now we're talking:)0 -
At home, cup of tea this year as DP doesn't drink now due to meds, will probably watch fireworks on TV and nip out the door to enjoy some of the neighbours' fireworks for free too.
I've had some lovely NYEs over the years, at home, out with friends, in with friends and once drinking champagne sitting in deckchairs surrounded by 2ft of snowdrifts. It's nice to change things up, but no need to conform to a specific tradition. Do miss Clive James and his review of the year though - used to enjoy those!***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***

We always spend the evening playing RPG video games, set an alarm on the phone for 11:55 at which time we crack open a bottle of @ldi champagne, put the tv on to hear the midnight bells and see in the New Year at the exact correct time, the tv goes off again once that's done, and we resume gaming til the champagne's all gone.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
