Hello,
I've been paying wescot credit services £10 per month by direct debit for a few years now. The debt amount was over £2k so it definitely won't be paid off yet, but I recently emailed them to see how much was still outstanding, and they replied that they couldn't find a record of me! They said they needed more details (they had my full name and email address). Not sure what to do now.. should I give them all my details? Or cancel the direct debit if they have no record of me?? It's been ticking over quietly every month for approx 3 years now with no news from them.

Err, the latter of course, get it cancelled.
They will be in touch sharpish enough if they put 2 and 2 together and "find" your account again !!!
Wescott only manage debts, they don't own them, if you stop paying, someone will write to you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You need to contact the original creditor to make sure the payments have still been sent there, i.e. that your money hasn't gone into a black hole (Wescot's bank account) and stayed there. I'm sure they will have but it's important to check. They will also be able to tell you who is dealing with it now. But yes nothing wrong with cancelling the payment - I wouldn't just ignore the debt now though I'd contact the lender.0

Thanks.. I'm 99% sure it was barclaycard (it was a loooong time ago). I've got a vague recollection of trying to contact them before to find out my old account number (to see if I could claim PPI, not that I told them that was why).. and they couldn't find any record. I'm pretty sure they said once the debt had been passed on they don't keep any record of closed accounts?? Hmm.. I wonder if it would be safe to assume that if I just cancel the payment then whoever wants the money would get in touch.. don't want to end up with any black marks on my credit file though.0

If the debt is older than 6 years and already defaulted, it will not reappear on your credit file, no matter what you do.
CCA request may be a good choice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. What is CCA? Thanks0 -
What is CCA? Thanks
Basically as long as a balance is outstanding on your account, you can make a request for a copy of your credit agreement.
If the creditor cannot comply, then the debt becomes unenforceable in court, and you may not have to pay it.
It's always worth doing, as if they can't comply, you can settle each account for virtually nothing, or you could just walk away.
Without a valid credit agreement the creditor can do nothing.
As they cannot find your account, the logical thing to do is take advantage of that and do the CCA request.
